Update from STAFF:

The SPS airport opening is awaiting tech approval from the FAA. Buses from San Pedro Sula to Tegucigalpa and vice versa are now funtioning. The trip takes 4 hours.

Update from STAFF:

Honduras is now rebuilding. There are some delicate areas, though, but together with outsides forces, Honduras is marching on. Everyone is pitching in and hard work will pay off. The Mayor of San Pedro Sula is putting his new plan into action..."Food for Work"! People who have lost their homes and have been laid off, will work in the clean up and rebuilding, and food, water and different articles will be given as pay.

Today I tried to meet Ted Koppel of ABC Nightline but only was able to talk to his helicopter pilot, with whom I left my business card. I wonder whether Ted is going to do his entire Honduras series and miss the real story...the evolution of Honduras during Hurricane Mitch.

Today's photograph is of the most important person I met today, the head of CODER II in this area, Lt. Colonel Emilio Rodriguez Alvarado, with whom we will visit El Progreso tomorrow to meet with the Royal Netherlands Marine Corps contingent, camped under the Democracy bridge.

The bottom line is, it's time to get muddy ...and clean up the mess left by Mitch!!!

For those of you unfamiliar with Honduras, an old adage around here states that old trucks never die, they just get shipped to Honduras.
