If there’s one thing you must see when vacationing in Honduras, it’s Cayos Cochinos, also known as the Pig Keys or Hog Islands. Getting to these islands is an hour long boat ride from Sambo Creek and once you’re there, you will never want to leave. You can stay on several of the islands with quaint rooms on Chachauate (a small Garifuna village), East End, or arrange a stay with several lodges on Cayo Mayor. Long Key also allows visitors but you must book this in advance to make sure there is room. Once there, you can have local fishermen take you to certain parts of the islands to snorkel, sunbathe, or simply relax in a hammock under a coconut palm. Enjoy the local cuisine of fresh fish and coconut bread and at night join in a drum circle with the local youth.
