The island of Útila is famous for its scuba diving (and snorkeling), and is known as the cheapest place in the world to obtain your scuba diving certification. The world's second-largest barrier reef runs alongside Útila. It’s over 1000 km long and home to over 500 species of fish, 1000 manatees, and an amazing amount of dolphins. The island also has the largest local population of whale sharks, and a research center dedicated to studying them.
