Whales Arrive in Guanaja
On the beach near El Soldado, Guanaja, eight whales, deep black in color, arrived by surprise. A group of experts traveled to the area to observe the appearance and condition of the whales. So far it is unknown which species the giant mammals belong to, but they are suspected to be Sperm Whales or Pilot Whales, due to the deep black color.
Guanaja is one of the three main islands of the archipelago "Islas de la Bahia" (the Bay Islands), and the only island Department in Honduras.
A similar event occurred the year before, in early October, when five Pilot whales died from unknown causes on the island of Utila. Residents feared they came close to shore and ran aground on the beach.
According to reports in local media, groups remain on alert to monitor the whales all night, and if they reach the shore, will try to keep them wet.
