Honduras Prepares for Elections
A new production plan has begun by the Registry of National Persons (RNP), so that Hondurans will have no excuse not to cast their vote in the upcoming November elections. If the plan is carried out one hundred percent, there will be a massive delivery of identity cards, the RNP authorities explained.
In an estimated period of eight days, the RNP plans to manufacture 125 thousand identity cards that correspond to first-time voters. There are approximately 612 thousand new voters requiring the cards in time for the election.
Every 15 days, groups of employees will be delivering packages of identity cards to different municipalities. The distribution plan aims to have delivered all the cards 15 days before the election.
The plan of issuing and delivery is designed not to fail. They have an extra printer incase one gets ruined. There are dual air conditioners in the area of services and production. If electric power is gone, an emergency plant will generate the service almost immediately. Six technicians, divided into shifts, constantly monitor the proper state of the production machines that had problems last week, but were repaired. Employees, who went on strike last week, have pledged not to interrupt their work for the good of the elections.
With only 45 days until the general election, the registry will have to work endlessly to achieve its ambitious goal of providing every Honduran with an identity card.
