Hondutel Moves Forward

President Roberto Micheletti inaugurated the new offices for HONDUTEL, the State owned telephone company, which will save Hondurans half a million Lempiras per year in rent. The building is located on Morazan boulevard in front of the stadium in San Pedro Sula.

He called on the State company executives to rescue the business and make it profitable for Honduras, since communications is one of the most important strongholds for the development of a country.

Communications are important for attracting foreign investment, the president said, it helps promote investment which leads to more jobs.

The regional manager, Oswaldo Javier Quezada, said one of the priorities of his administration is to combat the "gray traffic" that has generated millions in losses to the country. He promised that with the cooperation of the justice system, who has recently received training on this issue, they are going to fight this scourge.

Quezada announced that in December, 7,200 new telephone lines will be installed for the sectors of El Carmen, El Limonar, Juan Lindo, San Francisco de Yojoa, Villas Paraiso, San Roberto de Sula, Las Cascadas, Campisa y Residencial La Floresta.

He also talked of new projects and stated that HONDUTEL is moving forward. He announced there will be free Internet for those with a land line, and broadband will be available at lower prices than those offered on the market.

Sweet Help for Children

Walmart in Honduras has launched the campaign "Sweet Help," which aims to raise 500,000 Lempiras to benefit the Honduran Foundation for Children with Cancer.

The campaign will run in every Walmart-owned supermarket in the country, from Pais, Hiper Pais, and Maxi Bodega to Despensas Familiares nationwide.

Walmart Comptroller of Central America in Honduras, Maressa Reyes, said that more than three thousand children nationwide will benefit, and emphasized that the goal is to raise 500 thousand Lempiras. "We know that the hearts of all Hondurans are generous; we identify with the pain of others, which makes us believe that the collection target will be surpassed," she proclaimed.

Customers who voluntarily agree to donate a minimum contribution of two or more lempiras, will receive a piece of candy from Walmart, which symbolizes "sweet help", the name of this initiative.

In Honduras there are more than three thousand children with cancer and many eventually require expensive treatment for cancer recovery.

The Children's Cancer Foundation President took a moment to thank those supporting their cause, and added that "we profoundly appreciate the support of the Honduran volunteer. We offer distinct opportunities and they identify with this cause and have a great interest in contributing the gift of life for the boys and girls of this foundation."

Typically children will go to school, but not to learn on this day. This day is for presents, candies, races, balloons, games, prizes, and all out fun. The day is a celebration of children, to appreciate them and let them play.
