Fun in Honduras

Since Wednesday, August 20th, children and some adults have been ice skating in Honduras, despite the 80 degree weather.

An ice skating rink was installed in the middle of the Multiplaza in San Pedro Sula. Now those who go to shop, can also enjoy a skating outing.

Shoppers who purchase 350 Lempiras worth of merchandise in any store receive a pass to skate. Skaters and parents would like to see the ice rink a permanent fixture at the mall, as it provides a special experience because it is wholesome entertainment for children and they are in a safe place.

The rink can be enjoyed in the Multiplaza until August 30th.

Model Airplane Show Helps Children

There is nothing better than to have fun while helping a noble cause. That was precisely what happened at the headquarters of "Club de Aeromodelismo Sula" (Sula Model Airplane Club) on Sunday, August 23rd, 2009, where about eighty model aircraft participated in a show called "Alas del Merendon". The event showcased numerous prototype aircraft, as well as some that fought in the First World War, combat aircraft, helicopters, and commercial aircraft replicas.

Alex Wolozny, member and event coordinator, explained that this activity is one of the most prestigious and important in Central America because pilots participate from other countries like the United States, Panama, Guatemala and El Salvador, as well as from Honduran cities like Tegucigalpa and La Ceiba. At present there are 34 model airplanes clubs in Honduras.

The event was free and there were games for children. Proceeds from the sale of food and drink were donated to the Ruth Paz Children's Hospital.
