Choluteca is one of the 18 Departments that make up the country of Honduras. This Department is in SouthernHonduras, and borders the Department of Francisco Morazan and El Paraiso to the North, the Republic ofNicaragua to the East, the Republic of Nicaragua to the South, and the Department of Valle and the Gulf of Fonseca to the West.
Choluteca is well connected with the rest of Central America because it is located along the Pan American Highway.
The southern part of Honduras offers a variety of amenities that complement the offerings of the north coast.
The southern climate is hot and dry, in contrast to the high humidity of the North.
This picturesque silverbridge crosses the Choluteca river into the city. It was built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the 1930’s.
The main commercial activities are agriculture, fishing and shrimp farming.
