Your Diving Certification in the Caribbean

The warm waters of the Caribbean, offer a great destination to obtain a diving certification. While it may feel convenient to visit your local dive shop and quarry, it may also feel a bit cold and dark!  Some need more inspiration. The ability to dive without a wetsuit and feel the ocean against your skin, is an excellent reason to take a holiday south.   Not to mention the relaxed atmosphere, and the ability to drink rum from a coconut when you are finished with the days activities.

A trip to an exotic location is a fantastic way to begin your diving career if you have not already made the foray into the underwater world.  Many choose to take their Open Water certification (the first class)  or a more advanced course through their local dive shop. This entails several sessions in a pool and a nearby quarry or lake.  Although the experience is amazing, the colder and darker  conditions do nothing to enhance the amazing underwater experience one should encounter when scuba diving.

Hopping into the Caribbean sea is closer, physically and financially, than you might think. With the current economy, several locations are offering amazing deals to travel and stay in the most beautiful sea in the world.   Many airlines are flying directly into some of the diving hot spots   Mexico, Belize, Honduras, Costa Rica and Venezuela are among the Central American countries bordering the Caribbean with so much to offer at a reasonable price. Current flights are under $500 round trip from most major cities. Take advantage of low season rates, usually October and November, and May and June.  Why not combine your destination vacation with a scuba certification?

Almost every dive destination offers internationally recognized PADI certifications at a lower or comparable price, than local dive shop, making the decision to try diving that much easier! Whether you are a beginner or an advanced diver there is a course for you. Photography buffs will benefit from an underwater photo course tailored to your needs. Others will benefit from the Enriched Air certification which allows you to stay at a predetermined depth for a longer period of time, or to possibly feel better after a week of diving.  If you are pursuing a diving career and wish to obtain a Divemaster or Instructor rating, the ability to live in paradise for several months could lead to long term haitus at your destination.

If you take the initiative to take a PADI, SSI, or NAUI dive course on your next vacation and it may be life changing!
