PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC):
This is an intense 10 day course preparing you to take the 2 day exam to become an instructor. Currently there are several dive shops offering the course. Class is usually from early morning to evening sometimes late at night depending on your weaknesses. You will overview the same modules as the Divemaster course and master the theories of Physics, Physiology, Decompression theory, Skills and Environment and Equipment . In addition, there is the water component which in which you will practice and be evaluated on performing skills in an exaggerated fashion in order to properly teach students. These skills will be evaluated on a 1-5 scale, 5 being excellent.
After the 10 day course you will be evaluated by your course director and encouraged to either attend the IE (Instructor Exam) the 2 days following or told that you need more practice and to study and practice until the next exam (usually 1 months later). It is best to take the advice of your course director as if you do not pass the IE you will need to take it over again and repay the $500+ fee.
This is a 2 day exam for the IDC candidates to obtain their instructor rating. An PADI examiner from the region will come to Utila to issue the exam. This occurs approximately once per month.
