Within Honduran waters, there are several protected areas including Cayos Cochinos. This outcropping of isles has been identified by the World Wildlife Foundation as a key section of the barrier reef to be preserved, and is a no fishing zone. The Roatan Marine Park is a large proteced area on the west side of the island and is managed by local businesses and the Bay Islands Conservation Association. There are an abundance of fish and creatures due to the diligence of the management of this area. Nearby, the Swan Islands are considered a “hope spot” as deemed by Dr. Sylvia Earle. One of the most diverse underwater areas in the world. Several charter companies have the ability to take you to these waters and everywhere in between.
