Cayos Cochinos Resort
Cayos Cochinos, or the Hog Islands, are the closest to the mainland of Honduras, yet the most difficult to get to. Lacking an airstrip, the small group of islands are only accessible by boat. There is one resort on the larger of the two main islands.
Plantation Beach Resort
This is a rustic, all-inclusive dive resort. Amenities are limited, so if air conditioning and hot water and television are a must then look elsewhere. The surrounding reefs are a Marine Biological Reserve with plenty to see underwater.
If you book directly with the resort, they will arrange the boat to pick you up and drop you off at their point of departure which is usually in Sambo Creek. Sambo Creek is approximately a half hour drive from La Ceiba, the port city on the mainland. The hour boat ride can be smooth or choppy depending on conditions so those making the trek should dress and pack accordingly (i.e. prepare to get wet).
Once at the Plantation Beach Resort you will be greeted by your amazing staff and check into your rooms on the hillside. If you are looking for a beautiful scenery, a quiet nature, and unspoiled diving then this is the place you want to be. Across the way are the other islands in the small archipelago including the must visit Chachahuate a small, Garifuna, fisherman village serving fresh fish daily.
