The Municipality of San Pedro Sula continues to support Honduran youths participating in sports, and thus arranged lighting for two sports fields in the neighborhood of Perfecto Vásquez, Southeast of the city.
The Mayor of San Pedro Sula, Dr. Juan Carlos Zuniga, inaugurated the lighting system for soccer and basketball, accompanied by the Director of the Program for Peace and Coexistence, Gustavo Valenzuela, who provided the lamps for the residents of this area and who the municipality thanked for their support.
The lamps, valued at 130,000 Lempiras, significantly improve the efficiency and the effective lighting of the sports fields.
As part of the opening celebration, the citizens of the area held an inter-communal football tournament. Mayor Juan Carlos Zuniga and Gustavo Valenzuela presented the trophies to the winning teams.
The residents of this area attending the event heard encouraging words from the Mayor, who said that the current municipal administration’s priority is sports, and that The Municipal Sports Institute (INMUDEE – El instituto Municipal de Deportes) supports various sporting activities, making more efficient use of the free time of Honduran children and youths.
As part of this plan and commitment to the people, San Pedro Sula has delivered a range of sports equipment and lit sports fields in different parts of the municipality, including Rivera Hernández, Los Castaños, Las Palmas, and El Carmen; and reconstructed seven sports centers in the Satélite and Cofradía areas.
