La Moskitia Ecoaventuras' expeditions are in the in the Río Plátano Biosphere Reserve located in the Moskitia or Mosquito Coast (named after the Moskito Indians) of Honduras, Central America - a vast area of tropical lowland rainforest in eastern Honduras with no road network, and only accessible by river. We offer multi-day ecotour expeditions into this remote area, the largest Central American reserve of tropical rainforest, whitewater rafting trips, float trips and hiking in the rainforest jungles, marshes, mangroves and cloud forests of the best preserved area in the Central American neotropics.

In addition to our multi day trips in the Río Plátano Biosphere Reserve we also offer adventure tours and ecotours daily from our office in La Ceiba. The perfect way to completre your visit to Honduras´Caribbean Coast is with an exciting 1/2 whitewater rafting trip in the Cangrejal river(See Climatic guide and rapid classifications)., hiking in the rainforest of the Pico Bonito National Park, or a boat tour of the wetlands and Mangroves of the Cuero y Salado Widlife Refuge.

You can experience a trip hiking and camping in the exuberant tropical rainforest of Pico Bonito National Park located just a few minutes from our office in La Ceiba, Honduras. For an exciting whitewater rafting trip, only a short drive from our office are the turbulent class III-IV rapids of the Rio Cangrejal where you can experience the excitement of half-a-day of whitewater rafting in the lucious rainforest.

 

We also take visitors on 1 and 2 day canoe trips in the Cuero y Salado Wildlife Refuge, a rare Central American ecosystem of mangroves found where freshwater rivers join the Caribbean. An ideal place for birders to see the fantastic and unusual species of this rare habitat characterized by a rich diversity of flora and fauna including wetland birds, manatees, howler monkeys and whitefaced capuchin monkeys.

We are based in the coastal port city of La Ceiba, Honduras; not only the gateway to the Moskitia, but also with immediate access to the beautiful Cangrejal river with a dramatic backdrop of the rainforest covered mountains of the Pico Bonito National Park, the dramatic tropical setting for our 1/2-day white-water rafting trips.

IMPORTANT these itineraries are the main guideline for our tours, however the guide has the right to make adjustments to ensure the utmost security and safety of the clients. Other factors may affect the itinerary, such as sudden changes in water levels while rafting, obstacles in the rivers, the pace of hikers, conditions of the trails, floods and severe foul weather.   In all our expeditions we only use dead wood found on the riverbanks to prepare meals. Physiological necessities are taken care in the same way a cat does, with our folding shovel. We sleep in tents and we normally eat a hot cooked breakfast and dinner, while lunches are cold.   Where our itinerary takes us to indigenous villages, we often use local lodging, transportation and services. In this way these local communities also benefit from your participation in Honduran eco-tourism.   All tours are offered in Spanish and English, and all eco-tours are guided by a knowledgeable naturalist.
