Restaurants

Although there are many small comedores, our purpose is to provide the traveler with the best options for their food. Because of this, we have limited ourselves to the more formal restaurants in Gracias. Don't think that because we are limiting ourselves to the higher end eateries the prices will be expensive. As a matter of fact, it would be hard to find better bargains for food elsewhere in Central America. Although the above restaurants do cater to tourists, their every day client is a local, and therefore their rates are very attractive!

Restaurant Los Guancascos. Located at the Los Guancascos hotel, at the foot of the hill where the Fortress of San Cristobal is built, three blocks south of the bus terminal. They offer typical foods, international and vegetarian dishes. Their water is always purified and they offer great fruit juices. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It is unquestionably the best place for local information. They also sell books, handicrafts and cassette tapes. The owner is Dutch and fluent in English.

Restaurant La Fonda. Located at the central park, this is one of the older establishments in town, with good food and competitive rates. Open for lunch and dinner from 10 AM to 10 PM. The owner, Mr. Jesus Navarro is always there to insure good service. They offer a typical plate as well as a good selection a la carte.

Reposteria Y Pizzeria “La Esquisita”. Pleasant atmosphere offering a variety of pizzas and pastries. The place to go if you want pizza or have a sweet tooth!

El Hogar. Owned and operated by Dona Leila, this new establishment offers typical foods, such as Sopa de Caracol (conch soup), Sopa de Jaiba (crab soup) Tapado Olanchano, and a variety of others. They also have outstanding whole wheat bread for sale, as well as good fruit drinks with purified water. It is located one block east of the bus terminal.

Elvira’s Cafeteria. Located at the Hotel Posada de Don Juan, this cafeteria is a great option for your food in Gracias. Open Monday to Saturday for breakfast, lunch and dinner from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Sunday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
