Welcome to Honduras!
In addition to Honduras travel destinations and popular attractions, the country offers opportunities for business and trade. San Pedro Sula‘s “tax free zone” allows international companies to manufacture goods at attractive rates. Located at the very center of the Americas, Honduras operates ports in San Lorenzo and Puerto Cortes, which provides a thoroughfare between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, and expedites the transit of merchandise.
The capital of the country is the city of Tegucigalpa, the governmental hub, and features museums, ancient cathedrals, and upscale restaurants that serve a cultural diversity of typical foods. San Pedro Sula is called the “Industrial Capital” due to the number of manufacturing plants operating there. The next most popular city is La Ceiba, known to tourists as the place for Carnival, and to locals, as “la novia de Honduras” (the bride). There is a saying that many Hondurans (called “Catrachos“) take to heart: In Tegucigalpa, they plan; in San Pedro Sula, they work; and in La Ceiba, they party!
Roatan, Utila and Guanaja are the three largest of several islands known as the Bay Islands of Honduras. Located in the Western Caribbean, just off the coast of our country in Central America, these islands are each unique and very different from one another. Scuba diving is the main attraction, and English is spoken extensively.
Many tourists who visit here find it difficult to go home. The majority of Expatriates (Expats) are living in places like the Bay Islands, Copan, Trujillo, La Esperanza, Lake Yojoa, and Gracias, in addition to “off the beaten path” locations. These Expats have found a simple way of life is more attractive to them, and many seniors can stretch their retirement savings further in Honduras.
When people to decide to move here, they begin looking at real estate and are pleased to find it is much lower in price than where they are currently living, such as Cananda, The United States, or Europe. In the Bay Islands, real estate in particular is some of the most inexpensive in the Caribbean.
