The defeat is the first for the U.S. since 1989 in the opening game of the final round of World Cup qualifying. After failing to play in the World Cup from 1954 through 1986, the U.S. has qualified for every edition since 1990, making the quarterfinals in 2002 and the round of 16 in 1994 and 2010.
The U.S. had won nine of 10 meetings with Honduras and all three of its prior games in San Pedro Sula.
The top three teams in the Concacaf region advance to the World Cup, with the fourth-place finisher entering a two-game playoff against the winner of the group.
Soccer’s World Cup championship is scheduled from June 12 to July 13, 2014, in Brazil.

Hexagonal in San Pedro Sula History:
The draw for the final round of CONCACAF was held last night in Miami left the bicolor catracha face to face with the favorites of the Confederation, the United States and Mexico but at home in the first two dates. This cycle will close on October 15 at the National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica.
According to the draw, it fell at for Honduras at No. 3 and in the order already established, it’s up to open the first two dates locally, first with the difficult choice of the United States and then to the Aztecs. With different backgrounds both rivals there as before directed by German Jurgen Klinsmann have never won at home and on the other hand, Mexico has 16 years in our country with out beating the Catrachos. The game with the “Tri” will be played on Friday 22nd of March, then grab our suitcases and the bicolor since Tuesday the 26th we will be playing at the Rommel Fernandez to be measured against the Panamanians who open at home against Costa Rica and then on to the Caribbean island of Jamaica.
After the first three dates, the qualifiers will have a break of nearly two months. They return to action in June where they will face three soccer games in eleven days. The fourth round will be played at Estadio Ricardo Saprissa of Costa Rica and later, we will face the Jamaicans at our Olympic Stadium in San Pedro Sula; thus closing the first round.
One week after the conclusion of the first round of the hex, the “H” travel to the U.S. at a venue yet to be defined. This will happen exactly on Tuesday 18th of June. Once these three days has passed another break, also two and a half months. In September they will play two games: we will return from the visit to Mexico in the Azteca Stadium and then receive Panama, a true rematch after the home opener that occurred between Hondurans and Panama Canaleros face of in a match at the Olympic Stadium in San Pedro Sula .

Costa Rica vs MéxicoHistory
Honduras has won only once in history against of the United States in qualifying games for the World Cup and this was 3-2 in Washington. There are six games in the history between the two. The Honduran Selection and Mexico have met in knockout futbol matches in Honduras on 9 occasions. We only won two of them one in San Pedro Sula and the other match in Tegucigalpa 4-1. In the industrial capital of Honduras they have not won since 1965. Jamaica we faced 10 times in qualifying circumstances before. The highest score was 3-0 in favor of the islanders in Kingtson with 2 goals from Walter Boyd and one of Theodore Whitmore.
Between Honduras and Costa Rica there is a rich history in football playoffs. The Ticos have won only once in our land, which was in 2001 when they won 3-2 at the National Stadium. The recent victory by the Panama Canaleros in San Pedro Sula last June, is the only one that Panama has achieved. Playing in Tegucigalpa they lost the other three played.
The match against Mexico on June 18 will be played on the date of June 4th, 2013, due to the participation of Mexico in the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup.
Honduras had Alfredo Hawit and the president of Real España, Mateo Yibrín. The only coaches who attended were Jurgen Klinsmann and Dely Valdés.
So the numbers drawn were :

The USA has beaten Honduras in Honduras in both meetings since the launch of the Hexagonal, Concacaf’s six-team World Cup qualifying competition. Their meeting on Feb. 6 2013; to open the final round of World Cup 2014 qualifying will be different. The game will kick off at 3 p.m. local time in San Pedro Sula (4 p.m ET). To get an idea about what it is like to play in the afternoon heat in San Pedro Sula, you only need to see what happened to Canada when it traveled to San Pedro Sula needing only a draw to advance to the Hexagonal.
It would be an exaggeration to blame the Canadians’ 8-1 loss on the afternoon heat at the Estadio Olimpico Metropolitano. After all, the Catrachos were ahead 4-0 after only 33 minutes. But the heat and humidity certainly were oppressive. Despite some cloud cover, “sweat still dripped in rivers,” as one Canadian observer described the conditions in the 86-degree heat.
The 45,000-seat Estadio Olimpico Metropolitano, built in 1997, is one of the most intimidating stadiums in the world with barbed wire and a dry moat around the fenced-in grass field.
When the USA won, 3-2, at the Estadio Olimpico Metropolitano in October 2009 to clinch a berth in 2010 World Cup, the game was held in the evening. It was Honduras, not the USA, that cracked under the pressure. The Catrachos blew a 1-0 lead in the second half and had a chance to equalize after falling 3-1 down, but Carlos Pavon ballooned the penalty kick over the goal.
In 2001, Clint Mathis scored on a free kick to give the USA a 2-1 win over Honduras in another night game played before a sellout crowd in San Pedro Sula.
However this will most likely be be the best Honduras side ever seen in CONCACAF qualifying, powered by several elements that ply their trade in USA Major League Soccer (MLS) history; as with potentially more arriving in the off-season transfer window. The Hondurans demolished Canada 8-1 in a do-or-die matched played at 2 pm local time in San Pedro Sula back in October.
