Previous Honduras vs French Guiana match results:
After finishing fifth in the 2014 Central American Cup, the Honduras must first play French Guiana in a two-legged playoff on March 25 and 29 to determine the 12th and last qualifier for the Gold Cup.
French Guiana defeated Honduras 3-1in the first match on March 25th 2015.
However, Honduras may not be out of it yet, but they’ve got plenty of work to do in order to qualify for the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
The Honduras vs French Guiana match determines the final entrant for this summer’s Gold Cup tournament, Honduras faces a must-win game in the second leg of the playoff, following this 3-1 loss in French Guiana on Wednesday.
Forward Jerry Bengtson, on loan with Argentina’s Belgrano from the New England Revolution, opened the scoring for the Honduras National Team (La Seleccion Catracha) in the 17th minute, but the French Guiana pulled ahead with three goals. The first, a header off a corner kick, featured a botched clearance from Bengtson on the goal line, and then took the lead ahead of the break. They added an insurance tally in the second half, and despite a goalkeeper gaffe in French Guiana’s box, Honduras couldn’t take advantage and narrow the lead on the night.
Although Honduras Head Coach Jorge Luis Pinto’s men have an uphill battle in the second leg, they will be playing at home in the second leg at San Pedro Sula on Sunday March 29th. Furthermore, because they scored an away goal, a 2-0 win or better would see them advance, provided French Guiana doesn’t score more than one road goal in a Honduran win by two goals.
If Honduras misses the Gold Cup, it will be for the first time since 2002. French Guiana have never participated in the Gold Cup.
