The WASHINGTON, DC public relations firm “Ketchum” has begun work on a $400k PR assignment to improve the beleaguered Honduras’ government’s global reputation.
According to documents filed with the US Justice Department, Ketchum inked the deal in June of this year, to provide ongoing strategic PR counsel and media relations to the Honduras government’s Ministry of Strategy and Communications.
The move comes after a multi-million dollar corruption scandal triggered months of popular protests against the Honduran government, calling for the resignation of President Juan Orlando Hernandez.
Honduras has agreed to pay Ketchum $421,333 for fees/expenses over the course of the one-year pact.
Ketchum reports to Hilda Hernandez, who is minister of strategy & communications and sister to Honduras President Juan Orlando Henandez who back in June he declared she had no budget! Yet she clearly is spending Hondurans tax dollars.
The assignment also comes after Ketchum ended its tenure as Russia’s global PR agency earlier this year.
Ketchum representatives did not respond to request for comment as this story went live. Some deal Honduras must have gotten for 400k… maybe it is the no response, beans and tortillas only version.
All this at the same time that Honduras decides to mess with the Media and Freedom of Speech as reported by PEN and Reporters Without Borders…
Maybe Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernandez will start posing with exotic animals just like Putin… for all of “Ketchum’s” new upcoming commercials..
