The Band’s Hometown and Surroundings Colorfully Paints their Musical Influences.
Located between beautiful tropical mountains and the Caribbean shoreline, La Ceiba is the epicenter of Honduras’ Environmental Tourism. La Ceiba is also a melting pot of Caribbean cultural diversity. Many languages and dialects are heard on its busy streets, including Spanish, Garifuna (afro-caribbean ethnic group of Central America), English and Misquito (indigenous group of eastern Honduras). In the local market radios blast local stations playing Punta, Reggae, Merengue, Salsa and Computo, the Spanish equivalent of Caribbean Rap. These are the environmental and musical influences of Guillermo Anderson, singer-songwriter and leader of Ceibana.

Guillermo first received widespread recognition when he entered the Honduran musical scene with his acoustic guitar and two garifuna drummers. Soon thereafter, the Honduran Ministry of Culture was sending him to represent Honduras in important festivals and concerts throughout Central America, Mexico, Japan, and Brazil. His popularity in Honduras grew as a local television station began airing the video of his song “En Mi Pais” (“In My Country”), and eventually used it to replace the national anthem as the song used to end its daily broadcast. Guillermo also developed an avid following amongst the children of Honduras. His song “Fiesta en el Bosque” teaches ecological conservation and is extremely popular, especially the live concert version that delight children with its life size puppets.

Guillermo presently tours with Ceibana (Garifuna for “from La Ceiba”), an eight piece band that includes a rythmnic dancer and full percussion section. Performances are spiced with the merging of diverse music styles including parranda, punta, reggae, salsa, and other Caribbean styles. Guillermo’s fourth and most recent work was recorded entirely in Italy (Elugi). In it Guillermo shows his inclination towards Latin Jazz and Rock.

The results of all these elements fusing together make Guillermo Anderson & Ceibana a very unique musical and visual experience.

Festival International Cervantino Mexico
Honduran bandleader Guillermo Anderson sings with a voice high pitched and delicate as a tropical bird’s. His music is a melange of softly pulsating merengue polyrhythms. Flamenco guitar and keyboards that are tinged with both new age airness and subtle blues. In his home country he is a star. One listen and you’ll see why.
