Catching flights to Roatan is actually very easy these days. Roatan has an international airport, capable of receiving any international jet.
The Juan Manuel Galvez International Airport (RTB) on Roatan is one of four airports able to receive international traffic that is in service in Honduras. The other airports in Honduras are the Ramon Villeda Morales International Airport (SPS) in San Pedro Sula, Toncontin International Airport (TGU) in Tegucigalpa, and Goloson International Airport in La Ceiba (LCE).
The island of Roatan airport has a small air-conditioned terminal that is served with non stop flights to Roatan from Houston, Atlanta, Miami, New York City (Newark International Airport), San Salvador and Milan. During the winter months, the island also receives flights to Roatan from Montreal and Toronto.
There are frequent flights to Roatan
In addition, there are scheduled Roatan domestic flights between the Roatan airport and the three other airports in Honduras. The international airlines serving these routes are United, with flights to Roatan from Houston and Newark; Delta, with flights to Roatan from Atlanta; and Taca, with flights to Roatan from Miami and San Salvador. The Milan, Montreal and Toronto service is via a back to back chartered flight service; however, it is usually possible to purchase air only tickets on these flights to Roatan.
Roatan Island Airport
The Juan Manuel Galvez International Airport is located in the Roatan community of Coxen Hole, which is relatively close by/to Sandy Bay, French Harbour, West End and West Bay, all via a paved road. Taxi service is readily available at the airport, as well as rental car options, including several international franchises that have their own offices and fleets on the island of Roatan. However, many of the larger resorts provide meet and greet, and transfer services from the airport to the resorts, so make sure you ask if they do so, and if the answer is yes, give them your arrival information so that they will arrange for your pick up.

If you are not flying directly into Roatan International Airport, your best option is to fly into San Pedro Sula, which is an airport with more air service options. From San Pedro Sula, you have the option to catch a flight to the island of Roatan, which might entail a connecting flight via La Ceiba International Airport, with a change of planes at that airport.
A second option is to purchase a ticket with Hedman Alas, the leading land transportation company in the country. They have comfortable, modern, first class motorcoaches with service between San Pedro Sula and the City of La Ceiba. (They also provide service from San Pedro Sula to the Copan Ruins, Tela, Tegucigalpa and Santa Rosa de Copan.) Hedman Alas has an office at the San Pedro airport, and depending on your arrival time, you can purchase a ticket there, and be transferred in their coaches to their terminal to catch your bus to the city of La Ceiba. Other Transportation to the Island of Roatan
From La Ceiba, you can take the modern passenger ferry, Galaxy Wave, a 450 passenger waterjet catamaran that operates two daily round trips between the island of Roatan and La Ceiba. It is a short, 1 ½ hour trip, and La Ceiba departures are quite convenient. The morning departure is at 9:30 a.m. and the afternoon departure is at 4:00 p.m. From Roatan, departures are at 7:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. The cost of the ferry is just under $28 US Dollars one way. Normally, there is plenty of space available on the Ferry, and arriving 30 minutes prior to departure will allow enough time to buy your ticket, check your luggage in, and board the vessel.
During the peak of high season, such as Easter Week and the Christmas – New Years holidays, the ferry will fill up, and usually departure times will vary in order to accommodate an extra trip. On these dates, you must arrive at least 1 ½ hours before departure. Please note that as a general rule, both for the domestic airlines and for the ferry boats and bus transportation companies; there is no service on Good Friday and New Years day. Please take this into consideration, especially if you have an international flight to catch after your flight from Roatan.
From La Ceiba, the Ferry departs from the Muelle de Cabotaje, which is about a 10 minute taxi drive from town, and about 25 minutes from the airport. On the island of Roatan, the Galaxy has its own modern terminal at Dixon Cove, located about half way between Coxen Hole and French Harbour. Taxi service is readily available at both the Roatan terminal as well as at the La Ceiba port facility.
