The capital of Honduras is the city of Tegucigalpa, which serves as the governmental hub. San Pedro Sula has a ‘tax free zone’ which allows international companies to manufacture their goods at attractive rates. San Pedro Sula is considered the “Industrial Capital” due to the number of manufacturing plants operating there. The next most popular city on the mainland is La Ceiba, known to the locals as the “Bride of Honduras”, and to tourists, as the place for Carnival.
The Port of Cortes know as Pueto Cortes is considered one of the most important as well as the largest Ports in Central America. Due to amount of Import / Export activity that is generated by the arrival and departure major cargo ships, the city of Puerto Cortes has a bustling economy and infrastructure to accommodate the many Import / Export and shipping / cargo companies who have day to day operations. In addition there are many local restaurants and hotels to accommodate staff as well as the hundreds of sailors who arrive and depart on their long voyages primarily to the United States, Europe and South America.
